The United States will put at least a 10% tariff on all goods coming into the country, President Donald Trump says.
WASHINGTON — The United States has levied at least a 10% tariff on all goods coming into the country, with much higher tariffs for some of America's closest trading partners, starting Thursday.
The tariff’s were announced on Wednesday by President Donald Trump. He said the expansive use of tariffs will cause factories to move production back to the United States, ushering in a "golden era" for the U.S. economy.
“Taxpayers have been ripped off for more than 50 years,” the presidet said. “But it is not going to happen anymore.”
Some hope the tariffs will have Americans buying American-made products. But how easy is that?
Here are some common items and where they are produced and imported from:
China:
- Clothes
- IPhone
- Androids
- Mac Laptops
- PC Laptops
- Sticky Notes
- Highlighters
U.S. total goods trade with China were an estimated $582.4 billion in 2024. U.S. goods exports to China in 2024 were $143.5 billion, down 2.9% ($4.2 billion) from 2023. U.S. goods imports from China in 2024 totaled $438.9 billion, up 2.8% ($12.1 billion) from 2023. The U.S. goods trade deficit with China was $295.4 billion in 2024, a 5.8 percent% ($16.3 billion) over 2023.
Latin America:

About 80% of U.S. unroasted coffee imports come from Latin America, primarily from Brazil and Colombia.
India, Germany, Ireland:
- Common prescriptions like, insulin, antibiotics, cancer medication, antidepressants and blood pressure medication and pain killers like Aleve
The major U.S. imports from India are medical appliances and accessories, pearls, precious stones, metals, coins, textiles and apparel, machinery and equipment, and articles of iron or steel.
