The pirate-ship playground at Canalfront Park in Lewes has been upgraded.

The old playground structures, built in 2009, have been replaced by new Kompan equipment, including a pirate ship, a carousel, a "Little Hen's House," mini picnic tables and mini hammocks. There's also new rubber flooring.

The project cost around $400,000, partially paid for through grants from the state.

"This state-of-the-art facility features a variety of interactive play structures, including slides, climbing walls, and in keeping with the maritime setting, a ship," Lewes Assistant City Manager Janet Reeves said. "We’ve also ensured that the playground is accessible for children with different abilities, providing inclusive play opportunities for everyone."

The playground is located next to the Lewes Little Fields and the Lightship Overfalls. In addition to the playground, Canalfront Park features docks on the Lewes-Rehoboth Canal, open grassy space and restrooms.
