How much rain has fallen in the Louisville metro? See totals, forecast

With more severe weather in the forecast for the state, the Louisville area has registered a little over 2 inches of rain since mid-morning Friday, and just under an inch of rain since midnight, according to the MesoWest weather reporting website.

Since midnight, most of central Kentucky has had between one inch and two inches of rainfall while parts of western Kentucky have seen more than four inches, according to kymesonet.org.

How much rain fell in the Louisville area?

Clark County has seen 1.3 inches since midday Friday and a total of 5.83 inches since Wednesday.  Harrison County saw three-quarters of an inch since Friday and a total of 4.86 inches over the past three days; while Oldham Count had 1.19 inches in the past 24 hours and a total of 5.66 inches since Wednesday. Bullitt County registered 1.77 inches in the past 24 hours and a total of 6.64 inches over the past three days.

In the Elizabethtown area, LaRue County had 1.68 inches of rain since midday Friday and 9.29 inches total over the past three days. Meade County has 1.23 inches in the past 24 hours and a total of 5.41 inches since Wednesday. In Hardin County, 1.49 inches fell between midday Friday and Saturday and a total of 8.41 fell since Wednesday.

Rainfall will continue throughout the weekend with multiple rounds of heavy rainfall expected to exacerbate dangerous flooding, according to the National Weather Service in Louisville.

A few severe storms are possible this afternoon, especially southeast of a line from Bowling Green to Lexington.

Louisville weather forecast

The Louisville forecast calls for rain showers and thunderstorms until midnight, with storms possibly producing heavy rainfall in the afternoon. New rainfall amounts possible could be between a half and three-quarters of an inch during the day Saturday and between 1-2 inches Saturday evening into the overnight hours.

Sunday will be much cooler with rain showers and a slight chance of thunderstorms in the morning, then rain showers in the afternoon. Highs will be around 50. There’s a 90% chance of rain Sunday night with showers likely until midnight. Lows will be in the upper 30s.

Prepare for tornadoes

Isolated tornadoes are possible with the highest chances in southern Kentucky on Saturday afternoon and evening.

Meteorologists suggest residents plan for where to shelter when warnings are issued, and make sure to have multiple ways to receive warnings.

The final wave of showers and storms are expected to push east of Kentucky Sunday morning. Any severe weather should be confined to eastern Kentucky by then.
