WASHINGTON D.C., DC — The Metropolitan Police Department is investigating an early Sunday morning incident where Secret Service agents shot an armed man, according to officials.

Local police say they received a lookout Saturday about a "potentially suicidal" individual traveling from Indiana to Washington, DC. Local police then notified the Secret Service.

Secret Service agents saw the individual's vehicle parked near 17th and F St NW. A short time later, officers saw the man matching that description on foot, Secret Service Uniformed Division Chief Michael Buck said in an on-scene media briefing.

Buck said in his briefing that as Secret Service approached the man, he brandished a firearm and officers fired. The man was taken to the local hospital with unknown injuries. No officers were injured in the encounter.
