WASHINGTON — A Washington, D.C. animal rescue group was offering $3500 for anyone with information on a video that shows a person kicking, beating and dragging a dog.
The video was posted to the Instagram page "Washingtonian Problems" and its more than 500,000 followers on Saturday.
The video was filmed by an apparent bystander and shows a man abusing a dog while walking the animal on a leash.
"Trigger warning: a member of our community witnessed a disturbing incident last night on Georgia Avenue, involving a man repeatedly kicking and attempting to suffocate his dog," the post reads. "They shared this in hopes of identifying the individual and getting help for the dog."
Timothy Moyer with the Humane Rescue Alliance agrees that the attack on the dog likely happened along Georgia Avenue Northwest, sometime over the weekend.
HRA posted the reward alongside a still from the disturbing video on the organization's Instagram page on Wednesday.
Moyer said his group hopes the $3500 reward will allow the HRA to protect the dog.
“Our primary concern is the safety and well-being of the dog. We want to find that dog and also find that person in the video and talk to him," said Timothy Moyer, director of Animal Protection Operations at the Humane Rescue Alliance.
Moyer also said he believes the man in the video could face animal cruelty charges, a crime that carries up to five years in prison and up to $25,000 in fines in D.C.
The Humane Rescue Alliance increased its reward to $3500 on Wednesday, after initially offering $2500 to anyone with information about the video.
