State attorney announces procedural changes to assist with case backlogs

18 hours ago 1

Newly reelected State Attorney Monique Worrell announced a change in how the state will prosecute cases.

At a Thursday afternoon news conference, Worrell said that due to a backlog of cases without arrests, her office will be asking law enforcement to obtain arrest warrants before bringing cases to the state attorney’s office.

Worrell said the backlog of cases delays justice.

The state attorney’s office said this backlog was crated because arrest cases receive priority, leaving many nonarrest cases on the backburner.
