The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
WASHINGTON — A woman and her service dog are without a place to live after a house fire in Northeast D.C. Monday night. Firefighters worked quickly to extinguish the flames, but the cause of the fire remains unknown.
DC fire crews and rescue personnel responded to the fire at a two-story home in the 3000 block of 24th Avenue just before 9 p.m. When crews got to the scene, they found flames shooting from the roof. Responding firefighters attacked the flames on both floors and the attic.
Crews were able to extinguish the blaze after about an hour. Another home was damaged by radiant heat from the flames, and a shed caught on fire as well.
One person who was inside the home at the time was able to get out of the home to safety. The Red Cross was contacted to help the woman and her dog who were displaced by the fire.
