A complicated storm system initially hyped to be a powerful snow producer has been downgraded.
The system will move into Colorado on Thursday and move out on Saturday after delivering another round of snow to the mountains and a rain/snow mix to Fort Collins and the Interstate 25 corridor.
Here is a look at the National Weather Service's latest forecast as of Thursday morning:
Thursday will bring snow to the mountains, light rain/snow mix to Fort Collins, plains
Snow will spread from the central mountains towards the north and east, spreading across Denver and the plains by early afternoon.
Snow will be mixed with rain on the I-25 corridor and plains. A few thunderstorms are possible in the afternoon and evening, then the precipitation will become lighter overnight.
Warm temperatures will limit snow accumulation to 1 to 2 inches across lower elevations, especially south and southeast of Denver.
The foothills and mountains will have between 2 and 6 inches of snow by Friday morning, with up to 8 inches in the higher mountains west of Denver.
Friday into Saturday morning weather will deliver more of the same
Light rain and snow showers are expected Friday afternoon into Saturday morning. Temperatures should support some snow across the Denver metro, with most of the accumulating snow likely staying across the higher elevations.
Hazardous travel is possible in the mountains and foothills, as are slick roads for the Palmer Divide and Interstate 70 east of Denver.
