Variety Nabs Five 2025 Webby Awards Nominations

Nominations have been announced for the 2025 Webby Awards, recognizing the best of the internet, with Variety picking up five nods.

Winners for the 29th Annual Webby Awards will be announced on Tuesday, April 22, 2025. The awards show, hosted by Ilana Glazer, will take place May 12 at Cipriani Wall Street and will publish special moments and the trademark five-word speeches from all the winners across Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, X/Twitter and Facebook.

Variety was nominated for five awards: best overall social presence (in the social – media/entertainment, features category); the 2024 Actors on Actors series (video & film – entertainment & music, series & channels); “Ludwig Göransson – ‘Can You Hear the Music?’ from ‘Oppenheimer’ | Behind the Song” (video & film – music); “Wicked’ Stars Ariana Grande & Cynthia Erivo Break Down Viral ‘Holding Space’ Interview” (video & film – variety & reality); and “‘The Blair Witch Project’ Actors Call Out ‘Reprehensible Behavior’ After Missing Out on Profits for Decades: ‘Don’t Do What We Did’” by Adam B. Vary (websites and mobile sites – best writing/editorial, features & design). In 2024, Variety’s Actors on Actors won two Webby Awards.

New for 2025, the Webby Awards introduced the first Brand of the Year award, with Google, Apple, Samsung, YouTube, Nike and McDonald’s nominated in the category. In addition, the Webbys have introduced a new suite of Creator categories, with nominees including Kai Cenat, Jake Shane, Laufey, Caleb Simpson, Zach King, Remi Bader, Trixie Mattel, Drew Afualo, Mark Rober, Chris Klemens and Abi Marquez. This year, the Webby Awards received nearly 13,000 entries from more than 70 countries around the world; of those, fewer than 1,600 received nominations. Organizations earning the highest number of nominations this year were: Google (38), Apple (38), NBCUniversal (24), MTV Entertainment Studios (18), TBWA\Media Arts Lab – LA (17), DEPT (16), Serviceplan Germany (16), CNN (16) and National Geographic (16). KMPG provides vote tabulation consulting for the Webby Awards.

The Webby nominees are selected by the International Academy of Digital Arts & Sciences (IADAS), whose members include: writer, director and actor Quinta Brunson; Anjali Sud, CEO of Tubi; Sarah Harden, CEO of Hello Sunshine; Jen Sargent, CEO of Wondery; Shannon Sharpe, NFL Hall of Famer and host of Club Shay Shay & NightCap; Amelia Dimoldenberg, host and producer of “Chicken Shop Date”; and Mitchell Baker, executive chairwoman of Mozilla Foundation.

All nominees are eligible to win the two most prestigious honors: the Webby Award, selected by IADAS voters, and the Webby People’s Voice Award, determined by popular vote at vote.webbyawards.com through April 17 at 11:59 p.m. PT.
