Two Montgomery County schools were placed under a shelter-in-place after a reported threat at Parkland Middle School. Police are investigating. No injuries reported.
SILVER SPRING, Md. — Parkland Middle School and Brookhaven Elementary School were put under a shelter-in-place Wednesday after Montgomery County Police responded to a reported threat at the middle school, authorities said.
Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) confirmed that officers arrived at Parkland Middle School and initiated an investigation into the threat. Both schools were initially placed under full shelter-in-place protocols.
At 12:37 p.m., MCPD updated that both Parkland Middle School and nearby Brookhaven Elementary School were transitioned to a modified shelter-in-place as police continued their investigation.
By 1:16 p.m., police reported that both schools had been cleared, but they will remain in a modified shelter-in-place as a precaution while investigators work to determine the origin of the threat at Parkland Middle School.
No injuries or immediate danger to students or staff have been reported.
WUSA9 reached out to MCPD for further comment regarding the nature of the reported threat that led to the shelter-in-place orders and subsequent investigation but has not yet received a response.
MCPD officers remain on scene and are continuing their investigation.
