The child's mother jumped into action, reportedly attacking the man to get her child back.
LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va. — A woman and her toddler are reflecting following this weekend's traumatic events.
According to Loudoun County Sheriff's Office, a man is in custody for attempted kidnapping. The alleged abduction attempt took place on Sunday, just before 7:30 p.m. in the 43000 block of Central Station Drive.
A preliminary investigation reported that Shane Paul Bergeron, of Georgia, forcibly took a 3-year-old from a local restaurant. The child's mother reportedly jumped into action, attacking Bergeron to get her child back.
She was able to recover her child before Bergeron got away. First responders conducted a welfare check of the child and reported no injuries.
Bergeron left before the police arrived at the restaurant. Officers found him later at a nearby hotel. It is unclear if he has any ties to the family or why he was in Virginia.
Bergeron is being charged with Abduction by Force and held without bond at Loudoun County Adult Detention Center.
