Landman” has been renewed for Season 2 at Paramount+, Variety has learned.

The Taylor Sheridan series, which stars Billy Bob Thornton and is set in the world of the West Texas oil fields, originally debuted on Paramount+ in November, with the Season 1 finale airing in January.

The show was well received by audiences upon its release. According to Nielsen streaming data, the show ranked No. 8 on the top 10 chart for all SVOD originals for Q4 2024. According to Paramount, the show also had the most watched global premiere and finale of any series in the history of Paramount+. Thornton also nabbed a Golden Globe nomination for best actor in a drama series for his work on the show.

“‘Landman’ was one of the biggest shows of the year because of Taylor Sheridan’s unique ability to tap into the cultural zeitgeist, harnessing the Neo-western themes of rugged individualism, ambition and working-class struggles set against contemporary debates around energy, climate change and economic growth,” said Chris McCarthy, president and CEO of Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios and Paramount Media Networks. “The series has helped drive Paramount+ to new heights as the #2 SVOD in the US for Original Hours Watched in Q4, alongside our other hit series ‘Tulsa King,’ ‘The Agency,’ ‘Lioness’ and ‘Dexter: Original Sin.'”

The cast for Season 1 of the series, along with Thornton, included Andy Garcia, Ali Larter, Jacob Lofland, Michelle Randolph, Demi Moore, Jon Hamm, Paulina Chávez, Kayla Wallace, Mark Collie, James Jordan, and Colm Feore.

The show is based on the “Boomtown” podcast from Imperative Entertainment and Texas Monthly, and is described as “an upstairs/downstairs story of roughnecks and wildcat billionaires fueling a boom so big, it’s reshaping our climate, our economy and our geopolitics.”

Sheridan co-created the series with Christian Wallace, with both also serving as executive producers. Additional executive producers include David C. Glasser, David Hutkin, Ron Burkle, Bob Yari, Thornton, Geyer Kosinski, Michael Friedman, Stephen Kay, Dan Friedkin and Jason Hoch for Imperative Entertainment, and J.K. Nickell and Megan Creydt for Texas Monthly. Tommy Turtle serves as co-executive producer. The series is produced by MTV Entertainment Studios, 101 Studios, and Sheridan’s Bosque Ranch Productions.
