Sunrise on the Reaping (A Hunger Games Novel) (The Hunger Games)

The power of the “The Hunger Games” fandom has lived on since the release of Collins’ first book in 2008, reaching a fever pitch in in 2012 with the onset of the inspired film franchise led by Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen. The film franchise includes The Hunger Games” (2012), “Catching Fire” (2013), “Mockingjay – Part 1” (2014) and “Mockingjay – Part 2” (2015) – and one prequel film, “The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes” (2023), starring Rachel Zegler as Lucy Gray Baird.

The franchise is set in the fictional world of Panem, where society has broken off into separate districts. To appease the rich citizens of the Capitol and to ensure the population adheres to government control, members of each district are selected annually to compete in The Hunger Games, in which contestants are forced to murder each other to survive.

Last year, Collins announced a new “Hunger Games” novel, titled “Sunrise on the Reaping,” which will be released this month. The fifth novel in the bestselling series is a prequel to the original trilogy, taking place 40 years after the events of the most recent tale, “The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes,” the film adaptation of which released last year.

The film rights for the novel have not yet been announced, but one can assume that “Sunrise on the Reaping” will follow the path of its predecessors and make its way onto the big screen.
