It all started with an X post.

Meghan, whom you might know as the proud daughter of late Senator John McCain and a former cohost on The View, has established herself as a Republican commentator on her social media platforms, the Citizen McCain podcast, and her Happy Hour talk series.

The unexpected feud between the women reached a high point after Meghan criticized Carrie's recent quotes about conservative representation on The White Lotus.

In this season of The White Lotus, Laurie (Carrie) and Jaclyn Lemon (Michelle) discover that their friend Kate Bohr (Leslie) is an "independent."

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Carrie praised The White Lotus for its conservative representation, saying, "I do think people like Meghan McCain and her community are really gratified to see a conservative person on television. I have conservative people in my life who reached out to me to say that was an awesome conversation, because I don't think it vilifies Kate."

Apparently, Meghan took issue with being mentioned in Carrie's quote about the conservative character and replied to an article from The Independent from her X account on April 3. "Yes Carrie, I am 'gratified' that the conservative character represented on White Lotus is the responsible, family oriented one not making a fool of herself," she wrote. "Unlike the progressive liberal you're representing who is sleeping with hotel staff and showing her tits to everyone."

Carrie's character doesn't sleep with a member of the fictional resort's staff in Season 3. She instead sleeps with a friend of a staff member.

On April 4, Meghan fired back at Carrie's response, writing, "Let me tell you, if I were on a hit tv show on HBO the last thing I would be doing is spending my time fighting with conservatives for weeks."
If you're trying to figure out how this exchange is even considered "fighting," it goes back to when Carrie first responded to Meghan's X post about Donald Trump's State of the Union in March. "This is the first time I can remember crying during a state of the union. Thank you President Trump. This is so beautiful. Anyone who has been impacted by brain cancer knows how special this is," Meghan wrote at the time.

Carrie simply replied, "Who's gonna tell her?" possibly referring to the attempts of drastic funding cuts to medical research from Trump's administration, which would impact cancer research.

Meghan responded to Carrie's question with a screenshot of Kate from The White Lotus smiling after her friends asked if she voted for Trump.

Then Meghan followed up with another post. "Can't decide if I should still watch White Lotus tonight since one of the stars decided to tweet some nasty crap at me this week for liking Trumps address to the nation."
Later, on April 1, Meghan said in a now-deleted X post that she was "absolutely heartbroken" to discover the recently passed government spending bill wiped out an important source of funding to research glioblastoma, the form of brain cancer that her father was diagnosed with. "My fellow republicans - this is wrong." Discussing the work of the National Institutes of Health, she added, "My father and millions of others have been treated there for Glioblastoma and other brain cancers with miracle doctors and nurses."
