Passion Pit, Ginuwine, Everclear and more will perform at SXSW showcases organized by Artist for Action, a non-political coalition of musicians including Billie Eilish, Peter Gabriel and Sheryl Crow that is committed to ending the gun-violence epidemic, and Sandy Hook Promise, a national nonprofit whose mission is to educate and empower youth and adults to prevent violence in schools, homes, and communities. Sexpop, the Dumes, Mark Barden & Friends, Artie Tobia & Redtail Revival, Tribe Friday, King Cruff, JC Stewart, Revenge Wife, Jo Alice, Of Good Nature, Lvvrs are also scheduled to perform.

Take Action x SXSW, an official SXSW event series, will take place March 10 at Mohawk and March 11 at Empire Control Room & Garage. The event series will run from 7 PM – 2AM on March 10th and 11:30 AM – 2 AM on March 11th and will feature live performances, interactive art installations, a music and social impact summit with panels and community gatherings, including complimentary brunch and happy hour. In collaboration with Bandsintown and Music Managers Forum-US, Artist for Action and Sandy Hook Promise are curating the Take Action x SXSW Music & Social Impact Summit.

Mark Barden, co-founder and co-CEO of Sandy Hook Promise and co-founder of Artist for Action, was a professional guitarist before his 7-year-old son, Daniel, was tragically killed in the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting. Since then, he has worked to prevent similar tragedies — first through Sandy Hook Promise, and more recently by launching Artist for Action in 2023, rallying artists like Billie Eilish, Sheryl Crow, Peter Gabriel, Nile Rodgers and more in the movement to prevent gun violence and create safer communities.

Passion Pit’s Michael Angelakos says, “My grandmother, who remains my greatest inspiration, once said: ‘Our main purpose in life is not to make money, or to have a good time, or to earn fame in society; our purpose is to serve others —to be of assistance to those who need help.’ I live my life by her words, echoed by my great-grandmother before her and my mother after her, along with my clinicians and closest guides: we were put on this earth to help others. It is truly an honor to be called upon to join Artist for Action and Sandy Hook Promise for Take Action x SXSW.”

Ginuwine added, “It’s an honor to be performing at Artist for Action and Sandy Hook Promise’s event in Austin. The work these organizations are doing to prevent gun violence is amazing and it’s important to me to be part of a show that’s goal is to educate and encourage discussion.”

“Music has the power to bring people together and inspire action” Barden says. “All across this country, youth and adults are bringing violence prevention education and advocacy into their schools, homes, and communities. These actions have been saving lives and driving true culture change, creating a safer future for everyone. We are so grateful to the artists and panelists that will be joining us at Take Action x SXSW and helping us to spread the message that violence is preventable, and amazing things are possible when we all come together.”

“Artist for Artist understands how to execute a successful event from all angles and always deliver,” said James Minor, SXSW VP of Music Festival.  “For me, a production stands out when you can feel the passion that’s driving it behind the scenes. With Artist for Artist, this is always the case.”
