‘Dexter: Original Sin’ Renewed for Season 2 at Showtime

The prequel series “Dexter: Original Sin” has been renewed for Season 2 at Paramount+ with Showtime, Variety has learned.

The news comes roughly a month after the show’s first season concluded on Feb. 14. It originally premiered in December 2024. Set in 1991, the show serves as the origin story of Dexter Morgan, with Patrick Gibson playing the young version of the iconic killer of killers. Michael C. Hall, who originated the title role in the Showtime series “Dexter,” provides the young Dexter’s inner monologue.

Along with Gibson and Hall, the cast also includes Molly Brown, Christina Milian, Christian Slater, James Martinez, Alex Shimizu, Reno Wilson, special guest star Sarah Michelle Gellar, and Patrick Dempsey.

The official description of the show states:

“When his bloodthirsty urges can’t be ignored any longer, Dexter must learn to channel his inner darkness. With the guidance of his father, Harry (Slater), he adopts a Code designed to help him find and kill people who deserve to be eliminated from society without getting on law enforcement’s radar. This is a particular challenge for young Dexter as he begins a forensics internship at the Miami Metro Police Department.”

Clyde Phillips, the original showrunner and executive producer on “Dexter,” returns in that role for “Original Sin.” Hall is also an executive producer on the series, as is Scott Reynolds, Mary Leah Sutton, Tony Hernandez, and Lilly Burns. Michael Lehmann, the director of “Heathers,” serves as director and executive producer. Robert Lloyd Lewis is a producer on the series. Showtime Studios and Counterpart Studios produce. Gary Levine and Urooj Sharif oversee for Showtime Studios, with production supervised by Tara Power. The series is produced by Showtime Studios and Counterpart Studios and distributed by Paramount Global Content Distribution outside of Paramount+ markets.

Paramount has placed great emphasis on expanding the “Dexter” franchise, with Showtime previously airing the sequel series “Dexter: New Blood.” Production is currently underway on the followup to that show, “Dexter: Resurrection,” with Hall returning in the starring role. The series also stars Uma Thurman, David Zayas, Jack Alcott, Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine, Kadia Saraf, Dominic Fumusa, Emilia Suárez, with James Remar, and Peter Dinklage.
