Bemidji woman dead, several injured after vehicle crash

Mar. 17—WALKER — A 22-year-old Bemidji woman has died and several others have been hospitalized following a vehicle crash on Saturday near Walker.

According to a release from Cass County Sheriff Bryan Welk, dispatch received a report of a motor vehicle rollover at approximately 7:01 p.m. Saturday, March 15, on County Road 13 (Onigum Road) near the intersection with the Stony Point Camp Road, in Turtle Lake Township in rural Walker.

Upon arrival, deputies and responders found a 2007 Dodge Nitro had left the roadway, rolling over in the ditch. Five occupants were in the vehicle at the time of the crash, the release said.

Two adult males were transported to the Sanford Bemidji Medical Center for additional treatment. One adult male was transported to St. Joseph's Health of Park Rapids for additional treatment. One adult male was treated on the scene and released.

One 22-year-old female from Bemidji was pronounced dead on the scene; her name has not been released at this time. An autopsy is scheduled with the Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office.

A search warrant for a blood sample from the suspected driver of the vehicle, a 23-year-old man from Walker, was executed at the Sanford Bemidji Medical Center, as alcohol and speed appear to be factors in the crash.

Criminal charges will be pending upon analysis of the sample received. The crash remains under investigation.

Assisting with the scene and investigation were the Walker Police Department, Minnesota State Patrol, Walker Fire Department and North Memorial Ambulance.
