California Security Guard Arrested After Shooting Patron in Face with Taser
A private security guard in Northern California has been arrested and charged with multiple felonies after a confrontation at a local venue escalated violently. According to local law enforcement, the incident occurred on Wednesday night at Park 101, where the guard allegedly discharged a Taser, striking a patron directly in the face with a conductive dart. The altercation, which was captured on bystander video and quickly circulated across social media platforms, has sparked widespread public concern and prompt police action.
The suspect, whose identity is being withheld pending formal arraignment, was booked into the county jail on two felony counts: assault with a deadly weapon and the negligent or unlawful use of a stun gun. Investigators stated that the graphic video footage played a critical role in establishing probable cause for the arrest, showing a verbal dispute rapidly turning physical before the weapon was deployed at point-blank range.
"While security personnel have a duty to maintain order, the deployment of a Taser directly to an individual's head or face represents an extreme and dangerous departure from standard safety protocols," a police department spokesperson said in a press release. Paramedics treated the victim at the scene before transporting them to a regional medical center. The victim is currently listed in stable condition but is undergoing treatment for facial lacerations and potential ocular trauma.
Management at Park 101 issued a statement expressing deep concern over the altercation, confirming they are cooperating fully with the ongoing police investigation and have suspended operations with the contracted security provider pending a thorough review. In California, private security guards are regulated by the Bureau of Security and Investigative Services (BSIS), which mandates specific permits for carrying tear gas or batons, though Taser regulations often rely heavily on individual corporate policies. This incident is expected to reignite legislative discussions regarding standardized state licensing and mandatory de-escalation training for private security staff working at entertainment and nightlife venues.
