BofA Lifts Lam Research Price Target as Global Chip Equipment Spending Projects to Reach $250 Billion

Bank of America (BofA) Securities has significantly adjusted its outlook on Lam Research Corporation (NASDAQ: LRCX), raising its price target on the semiconductor equipment manufacturer by $150. The bullish adjustment comes on the heels of revised industry forecasts indicating that global wafer fabrication equipment (WFE) spending is on a trajectory to reach an unprecedented $250 billion cumulative threshold over the coming years. As a primary supplier of highly specialized etching and deposition tools utilized in the manufacturing of advanced microchips, Lam Research stands as a direct beneficiary of this massive capital expenditure cycle.

The primary catalyst behind this spending surge is the unrelenting demand for artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure, which requires increasingly complex silicon architectures. Semiconductor fabricators are rapidly transitioning to next-generation technologies, including Gate-All-Around (GAA) transistor designs and High Bandwidth Memory (HBM)—both of which heavily rely on Lam’s precision engineering tools. Furthermore, global supply chain restructuring, supported by government initiatives like the U.S. CHIPS and Science Act and similar European subsidies, has prompted chipmakers to build out new manufacturing facilities globally, fueling long-term demand for fabrication machinery.

In a note to clients, BofA analysts emphasized that Lam Research is entering a structural growth phase that outpaces traditional cyclical market patterns. "The complexity of manufacturing advanced logic and high-density memory chips has increased exponentially," the firm noted. "Lam’s proprietary technology in atomic layer deposition and high-aspect-ratio etching makes it indispensable to foundry giants as they scale down to 3-nanometer nodes and below." This technological moat is expected to drive robust revenue growth and expanding operating margins for the California-based company over the next several fiscal quarters.

Despite macroeconomic headwinds and persistent regulatory scrutiny surrounding technology exports to China, industry analysts remain largely optimistic about the broader semiconductor equipment sector. While peer companies like Applied Materials (AMAT) and ASML also stand to gain from this rising tide, Lam Research's dominant market share in memory-chip manufacturing equipment positions it uniquely for the anticipated recovery in the DRAM and NAND flash markets. With global chip demand projected to double by the end of the decade, the $250 billion hardware spending projection highlights the fundamental role equipment suppliers play in the modern digital economy.
