Star-Studded Additions Announced for West End Run of ‘White Rabbit Red Rabbit’
The upcoming West End revival of Nassim Soleimanpour’s acclaimed experimental play White Rabbit Red Rabbit has expanded its star-studded lineup. A powerhouse group of eight new performers has been added to the show’s Monday-evening residency at London’s Duchess Theatre, which is scheduled to run through November 2. Among the prominent names joining the rotation are acclaimed dramatic actor Christopher Eccleston, beloved presenter and comedian Mel Giedroyc, and Inside No. 9 co-creator Steve Pemberton, promising a highly unpredictable and thrilling series of performances.
Alongside Eccleston, Giedroyc, and Pemberton, the newly announced roster features a diverse mix of comedic, dramatic, and variety talent. Satirist Nish Kumar, podcaster and comedian Adam Buxton, Game of Thrones alumnus John Bradley, creator Munya Chawawa, and RuPaul's Drag Race UK winner Ginger Johnson have all signed on to take the stage. Because of the production's unique structure, each actor will perform the play exactly once. Chawawa is scheduled to kick off the new wave of performances on August 3, with Johnson and the remaining cast members slated for subsequent slots throughout the autumn run.
Originally written by Iranian playwright Nassim Soleimanpour while he was unable to leave his home country due to refusing compulsory military service, White Rabbit Red Rabbit has become a global theatrical phenomenon. The show features no director, no set, and absolutely no rehearsals. Each night, a different actor steps onto the stage, is handed a sealed envelope containing the script for the very first time, and must perform it immediately in front of a live audience. This high-wire act of theatrical improvisation requires immense trust and vulnerability from the performer, making it one of the most demanding and coveted roles in contemporary theater.
"The beauty of White Rabbit Red Rabbit lies in its sheer unpredictability," said a representative for the production in a statement regarding the new casting announcement. "To have performers of this caliber—ranging from veteran dramatic actors to boundary-pushing comedians—agree to step into the unknown without a safety net is a testament to the enduring power of Soleimanpour's writing." The addition of these eight performers bolsters an already highly anticipated West End season, cementing the Duchess Theatre's Monday night residency as one of the must-watch events of the London theatrical calendar this fall.
