ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, Md. — A law enforcement officer in Anne Arundel County is facing charges for the alleged sexual abuse of a child.
On March 3, the Anne Arundel County Sheriff's Office notified the Anne Arundel County Police Department of an alleged child abuse involving a deputy sheriff. Investigators say the abuse occurred in 2016.
An investigation was opened and detectives with the Child and Vulnerable Abuse Unit began looking into the allegations.
On Wednesday, detectives applied for charges via the Anne Arundel County Court Commissioner. The court commissioner's office issued a warrant charging the suspect with sexual abuse of a minor, sexual offense in the 3rd degree, sexual offense in the 4th degree (two counts), and assault in the second degree (two counts). The suspect, 42-year-old Anthony Nickoles, was then taken into custody in Annapolis.
The Anne Arundel County Sheriff’s Office, Office of Professional Compliance is continuing to cooperate with the Anne Arundel County Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division.
The investigation into the abuse is active and ongoing.
“The actions of one individual do not reflect the dedication and professionalism of the men and women who serve our community with honor,” said Sheriff Everett L. Sesker. “We hold our personnel to the highest standards and will continue to cooperate fully with the investigation.”
